Peter Wirt

I am a qualified counsellor, completing a Masters degree programme in Counselling at York St Johns University. I recently took early retirement from teaching post-secondary Physical Education after 17 years as a head of programme.

Formerly I worked with York Mental Health NHS trust as an assertive outreach worker in the community, and on the inpatient wards in York. I have also been a senior Youth and Community worker with City of York Council Youth Services. I have been lucky to have experience as a player and manager for Team GB Inline Hockey, and since retirement keep an interest in the commentary box.

I have a keen commitment to supporting and promoting well being, open communication and good mental and physical health. As qualified counsellor I am developing my professional practice along humanistic and integrative approaches, and I have experience with CBT and psychiatric treatments as part of a whole person perspective in dealing with peoples issues in an individual, accepting and non-judgemental framework.

I believe that through a good working relationship, we can work together to help understand your story, and help you build the next chapter in the way you want it to be.

I will be on maternity leave beginning 1st of June, 2020. I will look forward to returning to work when we are ready, thank you

I am a fully qualified Counsellor from York St John’s University, and a member of the BACP working in York. As a humanistic and Integrative Counsellor, I aim to provide a warm, honest, and creative way of working.

Life can be difficult and challenging at times, and things can happen that are often out of our control, leaving us feeling vulnerable and alone. I offer a safe and confidential space, to not judge, nor advise, but to simply try and understand the world from your perspective, and give you an opportunity to explore thoughts, feelings and life difficulties, whether they are current issues or related to the past.

My aim is to help people gain an improved understanding of themselves, their emotions, their relationships, and work towards enabling change and personal growth, in a way that works best for them. I support individuals who may be struggling with emotional stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self esteem and much more.

If you are interested in my work or have any questions, please contact me via email or telephone and we can organise an initial consultation.
